Sweet Potato
These are 4'8 Sweet Potato's, ridden by Austin, Crowley, and myself. Simply because they are the greatest small wave surf boards on earth. On pretty much any wave you pop up on, this board just takes off. The dished concave on both sides of a spine running down the board create incredible speed when paired with the quad setup. The aggressive bottom contour also gives you considerable lift. This board pretty much is what you need in 1 foot NH surf to catch all the waves and shred knee high mush. So if you need a new groveler we highly recommend this board! -Lars

Lil' Nubster
Yesterday I took a broken fin Carson had given to me and decided to try to make a lil' nubster. Some of you are probably wondering what a lil' nubster is. If so it is a small center fin used in a quad setup up so you are surfing with 5 fins. They were designed by Sean Mattison and Kelly Slater used them in numerous world tour events such as Portugal and Snapper as well as the Margaret River event. They are supposed to help with the often sudden transition from one side of the quad setup to another during turns. It is also supposed to help with drive down the line. Mine was really fun, it turned really well but it wasn't as fast down the line than my normal setup. I think I am going to sand it thinner and then try it again. Here is a shot of my prototype! LARS

Molly Contest
Here is a shot of all the competitors for the 3rd annual Molly Contest that went down on 10th street on Saturday. The contest was a huge success and we should have all the photos up soon.
The end of summer
Well, summer is coming to an end. We haven't had much surf, but hopefully there will be some in the coming months. Our thoughts and prayers are with Louisiana right now as they prepare for hurricane Isaac. The Gulf coast of Florida should be getting some pumping surf right now. The annual molly comp held at the wall was a big win for the cable crew, with standout performances from members Travis and Brayden. We're looking for good surf labor day weekend, and will keep you all updated.

New Stick
Just picked up my new Santa Cruz Surfboards Rodent! Found it on the used rack at cinnamon rainbows cheap so figured it was hard to pass up. The dimensions are 4'11-16.38-1.88, now we need some decent waves for it. Here are some pics. -Lars

Duck Tape Surfboards
Just recently I have started making my own duck tape surfboards. This all started back in December. I was at cable crew member Tucker's house and we had just finished a blank for a surfboard. We put it aside and planned to work on it later. Skip ahead to this spring. Tucker and I were to lazy to glass the board so we busted out the duck tape and covered it up(this is the black one). With a quick spray paint job it was ready to hit the water. We were also too lazy to add fins so we had ourselves a junky, duck tape surfboard. I tried it a few days later and it worked really well. It held its line and went really fast through flat sections. So #1worked our so well I decided to make another. I got two 1 inch pieces of insulation foam from Crowley(thanks to his family business the lumber barn), I glued them together and started sanding. I then dug fin boxes and glued in a pair of our first skeg fins. I finished it of with a roll of grey duck tape. I rode #2 today and it was sick. Not as fast as #1 but it held its line and turned well. I am now looking to improve the stiffness of the foam and work on new channels and concave. So here are my first two duck tape surfboards. The black one is 4'3 and the grey one is 3'10. -LARS

Recent Events
We have a had a lot of good stuff going down at cable road lately. We had 3 days of good waves. Wednesday was overhead and glassy in the morning, Thursday was waist to chest all morning, and Friday was waist to chest most of the day. The waves yesterday were about waist high and glassy in the morning, really fun and punchy. Julian Wilson won the U.S. Open Of Surfing a few hours ago. We may head out for dawn patrol tomorrow morning in hopes of scoring some waves. Besides that here are two go-pro shots that my man Dave took using his hero mounted on a boogie board.-lars

Epic Day
Alright, We're going to put this short and sweet, today was a pretty sick day! We woke up in the morning, checked the cam and we greeted by head-high perfection. We headed down to cable and the waves were firing. We headed out for 3 hours of perfect peeling waves, way over head on us. We all caught our fair share of good ones and altogether had an insane morning. The waves soon were ravaged by onshore winds so we decided we should go jump off a bridge. We headed to Rye Harbor with our friends John, Henry, and Jack, straight out of Texas. We got right to work on insanity doing anything we could. Here are the photographic results. -Lars and Carson
The waves we quite big and mom couldn't really see us so we didn't get too many surf shots. |
